it ain’t easy being all about plaid

Working with limited edition plaids means that I don’t have enough of certain fabrics to make all my pieces with. The plus side to that is that a certain piece can end up with at least 2 colorways. Who doesn’t like having more colors to choose from?!

The downside (that no happy kid or parent who ends up with a coat experiences) is that I have to find enough yardage of additional plaid fabrics that I think look good and compliment my pre-existing selection of colors. My usual fabric supplier has a ton of great plaids but on my most recent visit, I didn’t see anything there that caught my eye. Just to make sure that I wasn’t just missing things because I was so woozy from my allergy medication, I camped out in there for over 2 hours staring at roll after roll, over and over. You know you’ve been in there way too long when the store dog scuttles by over a half dozen times and has lost interest in you.

Next week, I’ll be scouring some other New York City warehouses in search of plaids. Wish me luck.
