One of the things that I’ve learned from living in New York City is that you have to move quickly. And I don’t mean when you’re walking down the street (though people do dart past me hurriedly when I’m taking a morning stroll with the baby). I mean with work, you have to always be ready to jump up and get moving.
I ran into a fellow Bubbler from last season and we were chatting about how when it comes to debuting each new season, we actually need to have quite a few samples on hand at all times (in addition to the ones we have made for trade shows and the lookbook photography). You never know when you’ll get an e-mail or phone call requesting your pieces for a photoshoot or promotional event. And this being New York City, when you’re asked for something, it typically means right now (or the next day) please.
It does add up to make additional showroom samples each season, but if you have them ready to send them out when opportunity knocks, it’s money well-spent.
